Florida Governor Vetoes No-Fault (PIP) Repeal Legislation

BY: Rina Clemens, Gregory S. Pennington

The Honorable Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida, recently vetoed Florida’s no-fault (PIP) repeal legislation, Senate Bill 54, which would have ended the state mandated $10,000 in PIP coverage and instead required mandatory bodily injury coverage that would have paid out $25,000 for a crash-related injury or death. The bill also sought to tackle bad faith reform.  Ultimately, Governor DeSantis acknowledged that while the PIP system may have flaws, the proposed legislation may have had unintended consequences that would negatively impact both the market and consumers.
