Rick Jarolem is a practicing trial attorney in commercial litigation with over two decades of experience. Rick governs his representation by following three principles:

  1. His clients rely on his analysis and opinions to make decisions that have permanent effects on their lives and/or business. When Rick is retained to represent a client, he takes the time to understand the client and their sensitivities as well as the case itself. This way, when he gives an opinion his clients can rely upon it, as the opinion encompasses more than just the analysis of a legal position.
  2. Rick understands that he works for the client and not the other way around.
  3. For his clients, he understands that litigation is not a wanted activity. Rather, it takes the client away from their personal pursuits, their family and the business that provides their livelihood. With that understanding, Rick tries to minimize the time a client spends in litigation without ever sacrificing leverage or position.

In executing his principles, Rick makes sure that both he and the client:

  1. Understand the problems that the client is facing in totality. Not just from a legal perspective, but from an overall perspective.
  2. Define at the earliest possible point the “best reasonable outcome” under the facts known at the time. This way, there is a goal that can be worked towards and a plan that can be put in place to be as proactive as possible.
  3. Promptly delivering all news that either confirms or changes the “best possible outcome” for the client (good or bad) so that the representation can continue to be proactive in the changed environment.

Rick’s sound counsel has made him a valued partner and primary counsel for insurance, governmental, corporate, and individual clients alike in matters that include commercial litigation, including professional liability defense in legal and medical cases, business disputes, land use issues, real estate disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, bankruptcy, and eminent domain. Rick is a formidable advocate who has litigated in trial and mediation matters in state court, U.S. District Court and U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Prior to entering private practice in 2000, Rick served as an assistant public defender for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, West Palm Beach, Florida.

Rick is a graduate of the University of South Florida who earned his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. When not serving clients, he likes to spend time with his wife and kids.
